Only God Forgives Teaser Poster and Trailer

After a fruitful collaboration on the movie Drive, director Nicolas Winding Refn and actor Ryan Gosling are working together on Only God Forgives. Gosling plays revenge-seeking Julien. IMDB describes the plot simply:

Julian, a drug-smuggler thriving in Bangkok’s criminal underworld, sees his life get even more complicated when his mother compels him to find and kill whoever is responsible for his brother’s recent death.

The movie teaser poster was released on the morning of April 17, 2013 and was immediately accompanied by an animated gif that was tweeted by film studio RADiUS-TWC shortly after.

Refn’s previous film Drive covered similar themes and was a dramatic marriage of cinematography and soundtrack. For a better idea of the creative use of color and composition expected with this new film, check out the Only God Forgives red band teaser trailer:

So far, this has been a tantalizing teaser release. I’m a big fan of Gosling and Refn’s work and was especially impressed by the savvy use of the gif animation teaser graphic. I’m looking forward to this movie in a big way.
