Cinemagraphs are gif images with subtle looping animations. The best cinemagraphs are perfect loops, seamlessly ending where they began and cycling anew. The internet abounds with animated gifs, they are commonly used to express reaction and provide succinct ways of expressing an emotional or physical response online. Animated gifs are essentially the Internet’s greeting card. There is a reaction gif for any occasion.
Tumblr user Tech Noir has taken the cinemagraph to high art by using iconic images from movies and distilling the essence of a scene into a continuous loop. Here are some of our favorites.
