Sometimes you hear a song that you know is going to be played to death all summer long. Sometimes you see a video that you know will invade your brain for the rest of the year. The Major Lazer video for Bubble Butt is not safe for work and straddles the line of tastelessness. I chose to share the video because it’s visually arresting and likely to get popular very fast. This track is ripe for remixing. You have been warned.
Here are a few reasons why I think this song will get worldwide attention:
- The salacious video is extremely reminiscent of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “I Like Big Butts”
- The song has a simple, fun, and memorable hook
- The music video is likely to be banned or deemed too explicit for certain regions which will drive up its search numbers
- Booty shaking is popular worldwide
What could happen next once the song catches may be a series of remix videos to capitalize on its popularity. I have outlined a bit of this cycle in a previous post about viral content.
