Duncan Irschick and Al Crosby have been working together at UMass Amherst to develop Geckskin. Using a gecko’s foot for inspiration, Geckskin can hold considerable weight while not leaving residue or marks behind like conventional tape or nails would.

Will the next big content format contain bits of reality? USDZ could be a hint of things to come. Imagine programmable self-contained bits of volumetric information that can be shared with others. The process will be simple:
1. Scan a real clock
2. Program the digital version of the clock
3. Share the clock and it’s code as a single file so that others can instantiate it in their reality.

Organizers for the Yuri’s Night DC event previously held at Science Club will be hosting a free event at Red Rocks on H Street this year. The event celebrates the first human in space Yuri Gagarin who orbited Earth on April 12, 1961 aboard Vostok 1. Interestingly, April 12 also marks the anniversary of the first shuttle launch in 1981.
