I came across this clip of Back to the Future Part III— and now I can not unsee it. From the title of the video, I had expected an idiot savant pointing to something that would be a clever self referential device, much like the Twin Pines Mall reference. Instead, it was a dose of Back to the Future WTF. Nevermind all the Oedipal overtones of nearly hooking up with your mother in the past; this one takes the cake. If you watch the clip again, Verne’s expression when we’re first introduced to him has a thick palpable nefarious layer of in-the-future-I’m-a-gonna-go-back-to-the-past-and-do-terrible-things-to-you, irrespective of his age.

Typographic Anachronisms in Film – The Renaissance Anomaly
Do you notice the problems in the screenshot from Da Vinci’s Demons? A particularly interesting set of posts on Mark Simonson’s blog titled Son of Typecasting focuses on fonts used in film. Mark’s post Renaissance Anomaly stood out to me for pointing out the not-so-obvious errors in the image above.

NASA and Science Fiction Panel at East Tennessee State University
I was invited to speak on the closing panel about NASA and science fiction at East Tennessee State University’s (ETSU) first ETSUcon. The talk was held on April 27, 2013 in Johnson City, Tennessee. I jumped at the opportunity to unofficially talk about the cool projects I’ve been working on the past few years.
