Organizers for the Yuri’s Night DC event previously held at Science Club will be hosting a free event at Red Rocks on H Street this year. The event celebrates Yuri Gagarin the first human in space who orbited Earth on April 12, 1961 aboard Vostok 1. Interestingly, April 12 also marks the anniversary of the first shuttle launch in 1981.
Musical acts will include DJ Meegs and Brooklyn-based Starcadian. Prizes will be given out following a costume contest and telescopes will be available for viewing the DC flyover of the International Space Station. The event at Red Rocks starts at 7pm on Thursday, April 10. Other DC events celebrating Yuri’s Night are available on the Yuri’s Night DC website.
