Yuri’s Night is an annual celebration on April 12th to honor Yuri Gagarin, the first human in space, and to toast all those involved in making human spaceflight a reality. DC had several parties, these photos are from the Science Club party. For the last two years I’ve had the pleasure of being on the organizing team for the DC Yuri’s Night event at Science Club. This year we had trivia, a lego spaceship contest, and a killer DJ set by John Bowen & Rusty B. Giveaways included posters from the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, great space tourism books donated by Zero G Corporation, and prizes by Think Geek. Sponsors like Valador, Inc. helped make it possible for us to produce shirts, temporary tattoos, postcards, and pins for us to give away.
Attendees were anxious for space trivia and clamored for legos during the spaceship building contest. I tried to capture the enthusiasm at the party, I was inspired by the energy. I had a blast at the event and met a ton of great people who live in the DC area. I find that every year Yuri’s Night serves as a catalyst for great new opportunities, I look forward to keeping the conversation going.
