Tuesday February 26th, I was going through my normal morning routine when I noticed something strange; Daft Punk had updated their Facebook cover photo. I felt my heart racing and immediately started searching for any new information about the band. Were they finally releasing a new album? Are they going on tour? Will I finally get a chance to see them perform? The legendary electronic DJ duo has been on radio silence since their 2010 TRON: Legacy soundtrack release.
This morning, around 3:00am ET, Daft Punk sent out a press release stating their new album “Random Access Memories” is expected to hit stores on May 21st, 2013. The album is now available for pre-order through iTunes and I have already placed my order.
Daft Punk has been notorious for mysterious websites, simple press releases, and a general lack of information. The new album website RandomAccessMemories.com doesn’t give us more than a few share icons and a pre-order link. Regardless, with small sound bites and a few metallic helmets, the fans are satisfied to know they are back in action.
Leading up to the announcement Daft Punk and Columbia Records strategically released two 15 second teaser ads during the airing of SNL’s March 2nd and March 23rd shows.
As a die hard fan, all I have to say is #WelcomeBackDaftPunk!
