SpaceX was recently selected by NASA to help the United States transport astronauts to space. This press release describes the $440 million contract as a milestone in human spaceflight. The Dragon spacecraft will be capable of carrying seven astronauts, shuttle cargo to the International Space Station, and returns human transport capability to the United States which has been using Russian Soyuz spacecraft for those taks.
