Jaws Film Restoration

A variety of Universal films are being restored in honor of the studio’s 100th anniversary. Jaws is receiving the restoration treatment and will be released on Blu-ray August 14, 2012. The frame-by-frame restored Jaws with upmixed 7.1 sound was shown to an outdoor audience in New York City in April and at JawsFest 2012 this past Saturday. The video above captures parts of the process needed to clean up and enhance the original film negatives to create a new 4K digital master. Director Steven Spielberg says at the end of the short in high praise of the digitally remastered Jaws, “The wonderful thing about this restoration is what you get is something that both for sight and sound is something I didn’t even get when I made the movie.”

The films being restored for Universal Pictures’ centennial are:
All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
Dracula (1931) (English & Spanish-Language Versions)
Frankenstein (1931)
The Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
Abbott and Costello’s Buck Privates (1941)
