When I first met Holly Griffith a couple of years ago, what struck me most was her enthusiasm for space, science, and Star Wars. Holly was clearly someone who loved her job as a flight controller at NASA Mission Control Center in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Griffith dispelled that youthful naive notion that only worthwhile space jobs are either astronaut or rocket scientist. Matt, Dennis, and I recently had an opportunity to chat with Holly Griffith about how she became a flight controller and what it means to know how to launch and land a spaceship.
You can listen to the entire interview here.
Despite naysayers throughout college, Holly achieved heights few have risen to through determination, imagination, and intellect. The interview covered everything from launching the Space Shuttle to making a hover board. We discussed the types of college courses needed to work at a place like Mission Control while asking whether she was prepared for a zombie apocalypse. True to form Holly rolled with the punches and was quick with excellent and often funny answers. What more can you expect from someone used to troubleshooting orbiting space stations? Mrs. Griffith recently left NASA. We expect great things from her in the future and look forward to stories about her adventures along the way. We are proud to call Holly a friend and hope you are inspired to reach for the stars by listening to what she has to say.
