Felix Baumgartner is slated to do a 120,000 foot skydive from the edge of space on Sunday, through the Red Bull Stratos Program. An attempt on Tuesday was cancelled due to weather. It’s an inspiring feat– defying gravity to get to the edge of space and shirking common sense by jumping out of a perfectly good… balloon.
While Baumgartner is at it, he will be breaking the sound barrier, going mach speed– like Chuck Yeager without the X-1. Incidentally, Yeager broke the sound barrier October 14, 1947. Baumgartner may potentially be doing it again sans aircraft October 14, 2012. As Matt Scott puts it: “To infinity and beyond… and back again…”
The whimsy and magic of the attempt is only undercut by the amount of training and preparation Baumgartner and the Red Bull Stratos team have endured. The jump inspired this illustration, which you can buy on Zazzle as a poster.
Here is a 1000×1500 version of “Returning from the Edge of Space”. Though, ask nicely enough and I’ll send you a higher resolution.
Update: The responses and requests for high resolutions of the image have been overwhelming. Thank you all so much! I’ve made the hi-res version available here.

Hey…just got a copy of my poster through zazzle…I gotta say, I love the it…I hate the website mark on the top right corner. Didn’t see that when I ordered it. Now I’m a bit disappointed and forsee hanging this on my wall (unless I frame it out).
Thanks for the lesson…next time will make sure when pay for a poster/artwork of some kind off the internet….make sure its not watermarked.
Hi Kristina! Thanks so much for the feedback. I’m sorry about the watermark! I had put the poster on Zazzle for a couple of friends who had wanted them through zazzle and hadn’t thought to remove it at the time. I’ve since fixed it and reposted on zazzle. I’m not sure what else I can do to make it right.
Cheers,
Tate
