Understanding the Scrap Yard of Life with Director Amanda Bluglass
Award-winning filmmaker Amanda Bluglass is a sculptor, literally and figuratively. Amanda crafts objects in her sculpture studio from pieces she finds in metal scrap yards. Likewise, the UK-based independent director crafts documentaries from unique stories. Life is a scrap yard of beautiful narratives and it is full of interesting people: from treasure hunting deep sea divers and gay and transgender ministers of the Presbyterian Church, to octagenarian punk rockers. We had an opportunity to talk with Amanda about her work, listen to it here.
Directors Spielberg and Lucas Predict ‘Massive Implosion’ in Film Industry
Yesterday on June 13, 2013, The Verge’s Brian Bishop published a story with the provocative headline “Steven Spielberg and George Lucas predict ‘massive implosion’ in film industry”. The article covers a panel discussion held at the University of Southern California by directors George Lucas and Steven Speilberg and Microsoft’s President of Interactive Entertainment Don Mattrick. Quickly, their predictions include $50-100 trips to high-end movie theaters, diversification of content on television, and an indie emphasis on publishing content directly to the internet first. Similar concepts were echoed in our interview with director Amanda Bluglass. We recommend reading The Verge article.

The Great Dictator by Charlie Chaplin
“I’m sorry but I don’t want to be an Emperor, that’s not my business. I don’t want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery. We don’t want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone.”
