Don’t ask how I found the metal/j-pop band BABYMETAL, just be glad I did. Formed in 2010, BABYMETAL released their first full album on February 24th, 2014. (Also on iTunes)
BABYMETAL consists of band members:
Su-metal (Suzuka Nakamoto – Age 16)
Moametal (Moa Kikuchi – Age 14)
Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno – Age 14)
The music BABYMETAL plays is a fusion of metal and idol.
If at any point in your life you’ve thought about Japanese teens singing to heavy thrashing guitars and drums, this sounds just like that. BABYMETAL covers a wide gamut of topics ranging from chocolate to what I can only assume is a possessed neck brace. The band has successfully merged a few genres and I found myself enjoying their sound as I went through their online video playlist. I like the heaviness that is metal music but there’s also something about the spunky sound of J-pop that changes the way the whole song feels when listening to Gimichoko.
If you were to look through my music library it would be mostly metal of varying genres. I might have to add j-pop/metal fusion to that now.
BABYMETAL is Love, BABYMETAL for life! 😀
